A Day At The Beach by Lauren Esplin
Experience a Day at the Beach with Lauren Esplin — No Sunscreen Required
Our Gallery welcomes acclaimed Australian artist Lauren Esplin to Milton and invites south coast art lovers to experience her captivating exhibition; Day at the Beach this October.
“I have had the privilege of spending time in and around Milton, exploring the stunning coastal scenery that I find so inspiring. One of my favourite swimming spots is the Currarong Rock Pools,” says Lauren.
This evocative collection explores how the colours and textures of coastal environments transform throughout the day, mirroring the evolving ways we interact with nature.
“6:08am looks nothing like 9:25am or 4:41pm. Each artwork is titled by the time of day it represents. This show combines slices of time to create a complete day at the beach” explains Lauren.
The exhibition captures intimate moments of coastal life: three women slouched at the waters edge in deep reverie, friends walking hand in hand along the shoreline, and groups swimming in cool ocean waters while others dive beneath oncoming waves. Each work radiates a joyous sense of freedom—the release that only a day at the beach can promise. Viewers can almost hear and smell the ocean, feel the sun on their skin, and imagine those first sizzling steps into cool water.
“In this collection, I have explored different perspectives and stripped back the patterns and shapes I see in nature. Aerial views of water have become thick brush marks of teals and aqua, while ripples and reflections are expressed in intricate patterns” says Lauren.
Lauren’s paintings masterfully combine abstracted coastal landscapes featuring emotive markings with detailed figures that echo the familiar.
“I look to capture the joy of human connection with nature. I use colour and markings to depict the world not as it is, but as it is felt” she explains. “I think my paintings tap into a sense of nostalgia—a deep dive into our own memories of our time spent by the coast and how it makes us feel”.
