Flooded Gum Float Frame
Five figures drift in their own aquatic meditation, each finding their perfect depth in the underwater sanctuary. A man and woman keep their heads kissed by surface air, while nearby a man slips below into liquid embrace. Deeper still, two women have descended to their own private respite, suspended in the cathedral silence of the ocean's depths.
Bold shafts of midday sun penetrate the water column, creating columns of light that dance through the liquid space. Below, a landscape of rock shelf, sandy bottom, coral, and kelp creates an enchanted seascape.
The dreamlike quality emerges from the interplay of penetrating light and relaxed floating forms, enhanced by crudely drawn fish and coral that contrast beautifully with the finely realised human figures. The palette of navy, sapphire blue, and turquoise flows through ochre and rust accents, capturing both the ocean's cool depths and the warm kiss of filtered sunlight.
